Harmonie State Park
Harmonie flies under the radar, which is exactly why I like it. The Wabash River here is wide and lazy - perfect for teaching basic water safety and primitive fishing techniques. The park is quiet, uncrowded, and has room for skills practice: fire-starting without matches, shelter-building, navigation basics. New Harmony's history is fascinating - two separate utopian communities tried to build perfect societies here in the 1800s. Both failed, but the architecture and stories remain. It's a great spot for a low-key trip focused on skill development rather than big scenery. Sometimes you need a practice field before the big game - this is it.
