Linville Gorge Wilderness

Linville Gorge is not for beginners. Period. This is the toughest wilderness in the East - a 12-mile gorge carved 2,000 feet deep into the Blue Ridge. The trails are rough, rocky, steep, and often non-existent. You'll bushwhack, scramble over boulders, and navigate by terrain features. The Linville River at the bottom is beautiful but the descent will test you. This is where boys learn that 'miles' don't tell the whole story - 6 miles in Linville takes all day. But the sense of accomplishment is unmatched. This is the trip for crews who've proven themselves and want something genuinely hard. It's the eastern wilderness experience that rivals anything out West.
