Pokagon State Park - Winter
Most troops shut down in winter. Big mistake. Pokagon's toboggan run is a quarter-mile of pure adrenaline - refrigerated track, speeds up to 40 mph, and I've never heard so much screaming and laughter. Winter camping here is gateway-level: heated shelters available, easy access to warmth, but you're still learning how to stay comfortable in cold. We'll teach layering, snow shelters, how to keep water from freezing. The lake freezes thick enough for ice fishing - drill a hole, drop a line, catch bluegill for lunch. This trip proves that 'outdoor season' is 12 months long, and boys who master winter camping join an elite club. Plus, that toboggan run alone is worth the drive.
